“I want to be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Our team spent nearly two years collecting data through anonymous surveys that looked into two specific areas: What does our community think of United Way? and Why do community members donate to nonprofit organizations?

The answer was clear: members of our community wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves and wanted to ensure their donation stayed local.

Motivating our Strongest Supporters

In 2023, United Way of Olmsted County launched its first Annual Meeting. The event convened over 150 local advocates, leaders, and elected officials who are passionate about creating a community where everyone can thrive.

Attendees were given a postcard that outlined how they could easily become a United Way Ambassador by signing up online and receiving free communication resources. From there, Ambassadors were encouraged to share with their friends and family why they support United Way of Olmsted County through the hashtag #LiveUNITED

Highlighting Real People and Real Stories

Through our research it became clear that it was necessary to bridge the connection between our nonprofit work and the surrounding communities.

How we did this: Our team set out to interview both donors and those utilizing services provided by our partners. Throughout several months, we learned about what inspired individuals to give, how a mother was able to succeed due to free childcare cost, and most importantly, what we can do better.

The result: Numerous reports that highlight real people and their authentic stories.

By sharing the experiences and success stories of real individuals, we aim to remind our supporters about the work being done right in Olmsted County.
